Recently, Ontech’s self-developed PBS-3 series parallel DC power supply system was successfully installed and officially commissioned in Hong Kong. This achievement marks not only the first deployment of Ontech’s next-generation parallel DC technology in the Hong Kong market, but also a key milestone in the company’s global expansion and brand internationalization.
The project was jointly executed by Ontech Energy and The Hongkong Electric Company, Limited (HK Electric), as part of the upgrade and refurbishment of high-voltage substations serving the core power supply area of Hong Kong Island. It covers a 132 kV switching station and a zone substation. The original DC system had been in operation for many years. To meet Hong Kong’s stringent requirements for highly reliable grid operation and compact substation design, HK Electric upgraded the existing conventional Battery Management System (BMS) by introducing the new-generation PBS-3 parallel DC power supply system with enhanced intelligence. The primary objective of this upgrade is to significantly improve the reliability, monitoring capability, and predictability of the DC system, thereby strengthening power supply assurance for critical secondary systems.

Compared with conventional series DC power supply systems, the PBS-3 parallel DC power supply system offers substantial improvements across multiple dimensions. It enables automatic online battery capacity verification without the need for on-site manual intervention, while operating data is continuously recorded and uploaded in real time, significantly enhancing O&M intelligence and traceability. In the event of a single battery failure, the system can isolate the faulty unit without disrupting overall power supply, thereby markedly improving system reliability.
Moreover, the system is specifically designed to address the constraints of limited space and highly compact equipment layouts typical of Hong Kong substations. With its modular, parallel architecture and high power density, it facilitates system upgrades within confined spaces while enhancing scalability and operational flexibility—fully aligned with the demands of substations in high-density urban environments.
Throughout project delivery, HK Electric provided strong on-site support to Ontech’s technical team and expressed high recognition of their professionalism. The Hong Kong power market features high entry barriers, with stringent requirements for supply reliability and technical compliance. The PBS-3 series, certified by CNAS, successfully passed the customer’s rigorous technical evaluation, supported by its proven performance and comprehensive technical service system, thereby securing entry into this high-standard market.
The successful commissioning of this project in Hong Kong represents a key milestone for Ontech Energy, reflecting years of dedication to the power transmission and distribution sector and continued progress in product internationalization. Looking ahead, Ontech Energy will remain committed to its vision of “making electricity use more worry-free,” delivering safer, smarter, and greener power distribution solutions, along with high-quality services, to customers worldwide.
